Being an Indie Author has it's ups and downs. I sit here, waiting to go to an eye appointment and I think about the current books I am working on. The Forbidden Celestials. It's a twelve book series. Yes, you read that right. Initially I was going to publish them individually. As time went on I decided I would write them into volumes. Three books in volume. I am excited and nervous about this choice. Some problems we run into as authors is pricing of our works. We don't want to overprice them, but we don't want to cheat ourselves either. However, this doesn't mean that I will cheat myself. For me, it isn't all about sales. Do I want my books to sell and people enjoy them? Of course I do! All I want as a writer is for someone out there to enjoy my books and feel like I am a best seller to them. For some this is a naive thought. I don't expect many to understand what I mean and how I feel. This is okay.
I want others out there who are thinking about writing to not worry about whether anyone will like their works. There will always be at least one person out there who needs to read your story. So, tell it! Write that book! Write that book of poetry! DO IT! Don't let fear hold you back. Not all of us will ever really ever be known in the writing community. There is nothing wrong with this. Everyone starts somewhere. Even the greats started from nothing. Don't let rejection stop you. Find a good support group of other writers. Other writers who will keep encouraging you, keep pushing you to write. Because in the end, no one can tell your story like you can.
I too battle with the 'what if's'. We're human. Whatever you do, don't give up! Take criticism and use it to improve your writing. Use it to encourage to make your stories that much better. Don't look at a one star review as the end. There is no success without failure. You have to fall a few times before you can soar. If you read my first book published and compare it to the most recent book I published, it is like night and day. You need criticism and reviews to grow.
Never let anyone extinguish the immense flame that blazes brightly inside of you! Now, stop reading and surfing the internet and go write!
